Lauren Marois named Sage's First Full-time Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' has named Lauren Marois (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) the first full-time women's lacrosse coach.

"I am so excited for this opportunity to further and expand my career here at Sage," said Marois of her selection. She continued, "I'm happy that I can now dedicate my time to not only the women's lacrosse team, but as well as the athletic department, college and the Sage community. I am so excited to move into the Empire 8 Conference and the jump from part time to full time is coming at the right time. I want to thank Sandy Augstein-Collins and the athletic department for giving me this opportunity."

Marois just wrapped her second year as the head coach of the Gators having served as a part-time coach. Under her direction, the 2017 team enjoyed the most successful season in the program's nine-year history that wrapped with the team garnering the first post-season appearance as well.

"Sage is fortunate to bring Lauren onto our athletic department team in a full time capacity, said Augsteon-Collins, Director of Athletics.  She continued, "Her involvement with the lacrosse program during the last four seasons has been nothing but positive.  I am excited to watch the women's lacrosse continue to develop and expand as we begin competing in the Empire 8 Conference this coming season."

After almost knocking off No. 4 seeded Mt. St. Mary College in the 2017 Skyline Conference Tournament in May, Sage's season came to an end with record of 7-9. Along the way, the team reached new high-water marks for success that included seven wins, five wins in a row and a spot in post-season play, all Sage women's lacrosse firsts.

In her first year with the Gators as head coach, she led the 2016 squad to a record-setting performance. Marois produced three Skyline Conference All-Stars, while the Gators went 5-10 overall and 1-6 in the league. The five wins broke the program's mark for most wins in a season along the way, while also shattering the mark for most goals in a season (158) and most points (189) and tying the mark for most assists in a season with 31.

Marois has spent the previous two seasons with the program as an assistant coach and has helped the Gators achieve considerable success as they continued to break and set new standards for success for the program that started as a varsity team in 2009.

A 2013 graduate of Oswego State College, she played four seasons with the Lakers and played in goal for the team. She capped her senior season with playing in eight games, making two starts. She logged over 235 minutes in goal and registered an 8.79 goals against average and a .551 save percentage for the Lakers in 2013. As a rookie, she started three games and led the team in goals against average and recorded the win with seven saves in a 23-5 victory over Wells College.

She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Oswego State in public relations with a concentration in journalism and a minor in coaching. Scholastically, she played at Shenendehowa High School for three seasons, serving as the team captain of the 2009 team.

Marois has also served as an assistant coach of the Mad Dog Lacrosse Team, working with age groups from ages 5-18, while adding her knowledge of the game as a volunteer assistant coach at Shenendehowa from 2011 to the 2013, assisting with summer camps and winter session training. She also worked for three years as a volunteer for the SAFE (Sports Are For Everyone) program from 2006-2009.
