Gallagher's career-high effort not enough as Sage falls to Norwich
Springfield, MA--- Sage's men's basketball team competed on Saturday in the consolation game of the Golden Bear Hoop Classic on the campus of Western New England University. Norwich University tallied an 82-67 win over the Gators. Norwich improves to 1-2 on the year, while Sage is also now 1-2.
The Gators led 42-36 at the break and shot an impressive 52.9% (18-34) and were paced by the performance of rookie forward Michael Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) as he had 12 points and five rebounds.
Gallagher finished the afternoon with a team-best and career high 17 points and eight rebounds. He shot a blistering 60.0% from the floor as he hit 6-of-10 shots.
Also finishing in double-digit scoring was junior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) as he added 10 points and returned to the starting lineup.
Senior Dalton Austin-Michaud (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) racked up 18 points and nine rebounds for the Gators and also shot 50.0% from the floor (8-16). He earned a spot on the all-tournament team for his play on the weekend.
Norwich's junior Antonio Davis (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) added a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cadets. He had 14 points in the first half and was joined in double-digit scoring by junior guard Ryan Williams (Dallas, TX/Prestonwood Christian) who tallied 21 points, including 15 in the second half.
Sage will host RPI on November 22 at 7 p.m. in the Kahl Center in the home opener. A wide variety of activities will take place in conjunction with the home opener as Sage's SAAC will be sponsoring a food drive. Sage's student-athletes are asking for your help in making a difference in the Troy community! They have joined forces with the Troy Women's Club to help the Roarke Food Pantry in Troy stock their shelves for the holidays.
For the rest of the fall semester, Sage's student-athletes will be on hand at home athletic events to collect your non-perishable food items. If you are planning on attending a Gator event, please bring a donation. The center is need of unopened food items, especially soups and juices to assist with those in need of healthy food items. Sage's teams will be on hand with collection boxes at upcoming contests as we assist the community with a need, especially leading up to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons.
In addition, Sage's SAAC will also be sponsoring a promotion in conjunction with the home contest as they will be giving out free Swamp t-shirts to the first 15 Sage students with IDs at the contest.
