Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted Houghton College on Friday night in an Empire 8 contest. Sage came from behind at the half to collect the 75-61 win over the Highlanders. With the victory, Sage is now 16-6 overall and 10-3 in the Empire 8. Houghton drops to 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the league.
Houghton had a 31-29 lead at the break, before Sage used a strong push to overtake the Highlanders in the fourth quarter, outscoring Houghton 27-15 in the fourth.
Leading the way for Sage was a trio of players with 18 points each. Junior guards Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) and Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), and rookie Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) propelled Sage to the victory. Bowman and Bush added double-doubles as Bowman hauled in 11 rebounds and Bush added 10 boards. Bush added 10 of her eight points in the fourth quarter to spur the Gators on to victory.
Houghton's senior guard Laurie Call (Batavia, NY/Batavia-Notre Dame) added 15 points, while junior guard Emily Swanson (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) added 13 points and nine rebounds. Houghton was held to a 1-19 effort from three-point range (5.3%), while Sage made 6-of-15 shots from downtown (40.0%), including three from Parslow.
Sophomore guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added nine points for Sage.
Parlsow scored her 900th career point on Friday and now has 910 career points, which is 8th best at Sage. Her 160 career three-pointers ranks second, while her 273 career assists is fifth. Bowman has 679 career points with 549 career rebounds and she is now 16th in career scoring and sixth in career rebounding.
Sage returns to action on Saturday, February 10 hosting Alfred University in an Empire 8 contest. Houghton travel to Stevens on Saturday, February 10 for a 5 p.m. in an 8 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
