Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse squad hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Tuesday afternoon in the squads' Skyline Conference opener. The Knights held on for a 15-10 win to improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Sage falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.
MSMC held an 8-4 lead at the half but the Gators reeled off back to back goals to open the second half and twice pulled within two goals (8-6, 9-7), before senior attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan Regional) paced the Knights with her game-best six goals. Gattoni leads MSMC with her 18 goals and 23 points.
Rookie Mikaela Rios (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) added five points in the match-up after adding four goals an assist to elevate her season totals to eight goals with one assist and nine points.
Sage's senior tri-captain Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) connected for a team-best five points on four goals and assist, while senior Nicole Maher (Glen Cove, NY/Saint Dominic) added two goals with an assist. Koralus continues to rewrite the program's record book with every appearance on the field. She leads the Gators with her 18 goals, four assists and 22 points. She now has 171 points with 131 goals and 40 assists.
Sage's senior goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) suffered the loss after 25 minutes of work with four saves and eight goals allowed. She shared time in net with sophomore Jenna Cislak (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington), who added six saves in her first appearance with seven goals allowed in 36 minutes of service. MSMC's sophomore Amanda Piccolo (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream Central) earned the win with 55 minutes of work, yielding eight goals with 10 saves. Also appearing for the Knights was rookie Carolyn Smith (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) with two goals allowed in five minutes of work with a save.
