Bynon cited as Skyline Conference and NECVA Rookie of the Week; Bynon tops national stats rankings in digs again
Albany, NY---- The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team continues to rank among the national leaders in several statistical categories. With the release of the fourth NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Statistics for the 2011 season, Gator rookie libero Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) is back to leading the country as the digs leader with his 4.03 digs per set average. He was also selected as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on March 8. He has now played in 58 sets and has 234 digs on the season and also leads the Skyline Conference in the category. He was also tapped as the NECVA Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, becoming the first Sage Gator recognized by NECVA.
Sophomore setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) is also among the national leaders as he has 494 setting assists, good enough for an 8.82 per set average which is 20th best in the country.
Rookie opposite Ryan Wilkins (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) is 28th in hitting percentage with a .293 average. He has 141 kills thus far in 56 sets played for the Gators.
Freshman middle hitter Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) joins the ranked players as he is 29th in blocks per set with a 0.80 per set average. He now has 44 total blocks on the season in 55 sets played.
Sophomore opposite Jeremy Mosch (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) earned a spot on the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts last week. He has played in 56 sets thus far with 76 kills and 30 digs and 29 blocks. He averaged 2.33 kills per set last week with a .303 attack percentage in the Gators' 1-1 week.
As a team, Sage is also among the national statistical leaders for Division III. Sage ranks 12th with their 2.15 blocks per set average as they have a combined 163 blocks. Sage stands at 9-8 overall on the year, adding to a new high-water mark for wins in a season for the second-year varsity program and is now 20th in win percentage (0.529). The Gators sport a team hitting percentage of .202, which is 23rd best. They also rank 25th with their 9.60 setting assists per set and 27th with 10.38 kills per set average.
Sage returns to action on March 12 travelling to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference Quad Match as they will face both Purchase and the College on Mt. St. Vincent in action on Saturday.
