McDonald's efforts, combined with Marszalek goal lift Gators
Brittany McDonald added a career-day in goal with the fast foot of Rebecca Marszalek to lift Sage past St. Joe's, 1-0.
Stillwater, NY----The Sage Colleges in women's soccer posted a 1-0 victory on Saturday in the team's Skyline Conference opener as they beat St. Joseph's College. With the win, Sage is now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference and St. Joseph's drops to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in the league.
For the third time this fall, Sage College's sophomore Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) tallied the game-winning goal as the forward broke a scoreless tie with just 18:27 left in the match. The goal was her seventh of the season as the forward has now scored recorded three game-winning goals. Sage is 4-0 when Marszalek scores this fall as the team's leading scorer from a year ago now has 21 career goals with four assists, good enough for 46 career points with seven game-winning goals in 24 games played.
Sage's junior goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) recorded a career-high 19 saves for the day and her second shutout of the year as she is now 4-2 in goal for the Gators. St. Joseph's College's senior keeper Dana Carney (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) would make five saves on the day for the Golden Eagles.
Sage returns to action on September 30 when they will travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match, while St. Joseph's College is back in action on September 30 travelling to Purchase College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match.
