Sage women netters post 8-1 win over Lyndon State
Sage's women's tennis squad earned another win as they defeated the Hornets of Lyndon State, 8-1 on Monday.
Troy, NY--The Sage Colleges women's tennis team hosted the Hornets of nearby Lyndon State College in a non-conference match. The Gators would post an 8-1 win to improve to 2-1 on the year, while the match was the season-opener for the Hornets of Lyndon State.
Leading the way for the Gators on Monday was sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury). Playing her first match of the year at first singles, Fitzgerald tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory over junior Danielle Jepson (Randolph, NH). Fitzgerald would team with junior team captain Kathryn Saulsbury (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) for an 8-1 win at first doubles as they beat Jepson and junior Rebecca Irwin (AuSable Forks, NY).
Spoiling the Gators' shutout bid was freshman Maria Parr (Montpelier, VT) as she was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at third singles beating Sage's freshman Megan Holmes (West Camp, NY/Saugerties).
Sage's sophomore Briana Bixler (Highland, NY/Highland) added a win at fourth singles as she beat junior Amber Hartman (Readsboro, VT), 6-1, 6-0 to remain unbeaten in singles play with her 3-0 record.
Sage returns to action on Wednesday, September 16 when the Gators host Purchase College in a Skyline Conference match, commencing at 4:00 p.m.
