Gators fall to MSMC 6-3 in Skyline action
Sage's women's tennis team fell 6-3 to unbeaten Mt. St. Mary College on Saturday night.
Schenectady, NY----The Sage Colleges women's tennis team hosted Mt. Saint Mary College in a key Skyline Conference match on Saturday night. Mount Saint Mary would remain unbeaten with a 6-3 victory over the Gators and is 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the Skyline Conference. Sage drops to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
The marquee match of the night was at first singles and featured a pair of opponents that were undefeated in Skyline Conference action. Sage's senior Christina Gray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was a winner in three sets over MSMC's rookie Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, NY/John S. Burke Catholic), 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. With her win at first singles, Gray improves to 15-0 in Skyline Conference action over the past two years, while standing at 7-0 this fall in conference singles play and 10-2 overall. Murphy-Goldberg is now 6-1 in Skyline singles action and 13-2 overall on the fall.
Gray and sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) teamed for a win at first doubles as well as they beat Murphy-Goldberg and sophomore Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, NY/Patchogue-Medford), 8-4. Gray and Fitzgerald own an 8-3 record this fall.
Llewellyn was a winner for the Blue Knights at fourth singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sage's sophomore Briana Bixler (Highland, NY/Highland). MSMC's rookie twin sisters, Emily and Jennifer Gregory (Albertson, NY/The Wheatley School) teamed for a win at third doubles, beat Sage's junior Devon Money (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) and freshman Julia DeMarco (Duaneburg, NY/Duanesburg), 8-1. Emily Gregory added a win at sixth singles, beating Money 6-2, 6-0 to cap the win for MSMC.
Sage will be back in action on Sunday facing NYU-Poly at a neutral venue at 7:00 p.m., while MSMC will face Yeshiva also on Sunday.
