2014 Team Captain

A newcomer to Sage last season, after transferring from Hudson Valley Community College, Justin Pruiksma  enjoyed considerable success as the Gators rewrote the record book. Sage went 30-7 on the season en route to the 2013 ECAC Division III North Championship after finishing the season as the Skyline Conference runner-up.

As a team, the Gators ranked No. 5 in the team statistics in both aces per set (1.84) and win-loss percentage (0.811). Sage is ranked in the Top 20 in five additional categories. The Gators finished the season ranked No. 14 in kills per set average (12.1), while ranking No. 15 in digs per set (10.41) and No. 16 in assists per set average (11.18) and No. 16 as well in blocks per set (2.15). Sage also ranked 20th in Division III with a 0.238 hitting percentage in 2013.

He played in 43 sets with 45 kills, while connecting for 36 digs and averaged 1.05 kills per set in his first campaign as a Gator.

An accomplished player scholastically at Coxsackie-Athens High School,  he played soccer, volleyball, and baseball, serving as a team captain in both soccer and volleyball. A first-team all-star as a junior and the league’s MVP as a senior, he was named the Times Union Player of the Year as a senior in volleyball. He was also named the 2008-2009 Male Athlete of the Year from the Greene County Courier. His 2009 volleyball team won the Patroon Conference Championship as well as the Section 2 Championship and the NYS Region Class C/D Championship.

A physical education major at Sage, Pruiksma has already made his mark as a coach having served as the head coach of the Coxsackie-Athens Boys Varsity and JV Volleyball Teams in 2011-2012 and led them to the Section 2 Championship after posting a 22-3 record. An Eagle Scout, he is the son of Bruce and Diane Pruiksma.
