Bio

At Sage:

A returning letterwinner, Melvin Tejada has earned letters for the Gators in men’s volleyball in both 2016 and 2017. Also a member of Sage’s men’s tennis team, he returns to the volleyball court for a final season in 2018.

As a Gator volleyball newcomer in 2016, he was a member of the 2016 team that made it to the Skyline Championship semifinals. Tejada played in 115 sets over 35 matches and recorded 0.31 kills/set, 0.15 assists/set, 0.10 aces/set, 0.43 points/set, 1.88 digs/set and 0.05 blocks/set while totaling 36 kills, .007 hitting percentage, 17 assists, 11 aces, 50.0 points, 215 digs, .799 reception percentage and 6 blocks. The libero was first on the team in digs and digs/set.

His strongest scoring performance in 2016 came against Yeshiva in a 3-0 win. Tejada scored a career-best 9.5 points on five kills, four aces and one block with five digs. His career-high 11 digs came in matches with Newbury (3-1 W), Kean (3-0 L), NJCU (3-2 W) and Bard (3-1 L).

A year ago, he played in 28 matches with 109 digs, good enough for a 1.58 digs per set average. A defensive specialist, his season highs for 2017 include 10 digs against Johnson & Wales (2/25/17) with 9 digs in the team’s match with Mt. St. Vincent (3/29/17). He brings 324 career digs into 2018, which ranks No. 9. He also owns a 1.76 career digs/set average to open the season and is 6th.

Academics at Sage:

He is majoring in business administration at Sage with a concentration on Sports Management.

High School:

A graduate of Springfield Central High School, Tejada was a two-sport athlete in volleyball and football. He was a two-year team captain in volleyball and earned Western Massachusetts Second Team honors as a senior. Tejada was part of the 2013 football team that captured the Western Mass Superbowl Championship as a junior. He also excelled in the classroom, earning Honor Roll acclaim.

Personal:

He is the son of Miguel Tejada and Ana Suarez. He is very active on campus with Sage’s SAAC.
