Sydney Benton

At Sage:

  • Sydney Benton was a Gator newcomer in 2019. She started 28 of 29 games played. Benton had a .959 fielding percentage and threw out two base stealers on the year. She saw limited time at the plate, but added nine hits including a double in 27 at bats with three RBI’s.
  • As a member of the 2020 team, she made nine starts behind the plate. She had no errors in her 41 total chances.

Academics at Sage:

  • She is majoring in applied biology and pre-med at Sage.
  • Benton has a minor in psychology.
  • She is active on campus as well and is a member of the Pre-Med Club and the Biology Club at Sage. She is also a teaching assistant at Sage in general biology.

High School:

  • A stellar performer at Mayfield High School, Benton excelled in soccer, basketball, and softball.
  • As a member of the jv soccer team, she earned the Coaches’ Award, the Scott Sterling Award.
  • In basketball, she was a team captain as a junior and earned the Coaches Award.
  • As a team captain in softball she excelled collecting the Coaches’ Award in 2014, the MCS Co-MVP in 2015, WAC Second Team All-Star honors in 2015. She was a WAC First Team All-Star in 2016 and the WAC Co-MVP also in 2016, while also earning a spot as a first-team all-star.
  • She was awarded the MCS MVP award in 2016 as well as a given the Golden Glove Award in 2017. She was a 2017 WAC First Team All-Star and honored as the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber Of Commerce 2018 Outstanding Athlete, MCS Coaches Achievement Award (2018), MCS MVP (2018), and collected 100 Career Hits as a senior and served as a team captain for two years as a member of the varsity team.
  • She helped lead the softball team to three consecutive Western Athletic Conference Championship titles.
  • Academically, she was a scholar-athlete at Mayfield all four years and is a National Honor Society Student, while also earning CASDA Scholar Recognition in 2018.
