Scott Jarosz named to 2012 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team member, junior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) was named the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team on Tuesday afternoon for his efforts in the classroom and on the playing field. He becomes the first Sage men's soccer player to garner this distinction and the third Sage student-athlete to achieve this distinction in the last calendar year. He joins the likes of Gator softball player, Rachel Smith and men's golfer Dan Schultz.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
Jarosz has enjoyed a record-setting season with the Gators as he is one of the top scorers in the NCAA Division III this fall. He capped his personal-best campaign as he rewrote almost every Sage offensive record in 2012. He netted 22 goals and 44 points this fall, while tallying five game-winning goals. Overall on his career, he has elevated his resume to include 31 goals and 63 career points, all active Sage career records.
Over the course of the season, he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Metro Division III Men's Soccer Player of the Week on October 10, while also garnering four selections as the Skyline Conference Men's Player or Co-Player of the Week. He was also named to the 2012 Skyline Conference All-Star First Team and was also tapped as the Most Outstanding Player at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Championship after leading Sage to the championship title.
With the release of the last NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Statistics, he ranks in the Top 15 nationally four offensive categories. He is No. 4 nationally with his 22 goals, while his 1.1 goals per game average is ranked No. 7. He stands at No. 9 in points per game average with a 2.2 per game average, while ranking No. 11 in total points (44). The victory by the Sage men's soccer team marks the first ECAC Championship for a men's varsity program at Sage. The 2012 Gators set new high-water marks for most wins in a season (14), while also making the squad's third straight post-season appearance as well. On the 2012 season, the Gators were ranked nationally in numerous categories as well. They are No. 46 in both win percentage (.725) and team goals against average (0.84), while ranking No. 33 in saves percentage (.837). Offensively, Sage was ranked No. 51 in total goals and No. 54 in total offense (2.35), while also ranking 62nd in total points (125) and No. 80 in total assists (31).
Active at Sage as a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, he has helped the student-athletes at Sage as they have been active in the community with New York State Special Olympics. He is a physical therapy major at Sage and throughout his career, the team has earned post-season appearances in the Skyline Conference in 2010, 2011, and 2012, while last year's team also earned a spot in the 2011 ECAC Athletic Conference Metro NY-NJ Tournament.
