UTICA, N.Y. – In a match with Empire 8 Conference postseason implications, visiting Russell Sage College was upended 5-4 at Utica this afternoon.
Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), a graduate student, won in both singles and doubles, while junior Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and sophomore Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady) were victorious in singles.
Today's result put the Pioneers (3-5/2-3 E8) in the driver seat for the fourth and final E8 playoff spot. RSC (4-7/2-3 E8) now needs to defeat visiting Alfred tomorrow afternoon and have Utica fall to Hartwick to clinch the playoff berth.
Sunday's 1:00 pm matinee vs. Alfred will serve as the Gators' "Senior Day".
