Farmingdale, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to Farmingdale State for a tri-match with Yeshiva University to open Skyline Conference play. Picked No. 1 in the Skyline Conference pre-season poll, Sage made easy work of their opening day opponents, beating Yeshiva, 3-0 (25-3, 25-15, 25-5) and Farmingdale, 3-0 ( 25-22, 25-15, 25-11). Sage improves to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference and has now won 15 consecutive Skyline Conference matches dating back to October 3, 2012. The last league setback came on that date to Mt. St. Mary College, 3-1.
Against Yeshiva, Sage combined for 21 aces, including seven from sophomore setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford). She also handed out 23 setting assists with six digs. Freshman Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) picked up six kills, while sophomore Katie Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added five kills with four aces. Senior Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added three kills, four aces and team-leading nine digs as Sage combined for .306 attack percentage and was a perfect 23-0 in receptions in the contest.
Against Farmingdale State, the Gators had several players come up strong as senior Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added eight kills, as did junior Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa), and sophomore Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley). Putriment added four digs, while Liebig connected for 33 setting assists with two aces and seven digs. Senior Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied seven kills, while sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for a team-best 18 digs.
Sage returns to action on September 23 travelling to MCLA for a 7 p.m. contest with the Trailblazers.
