Albany, N.Y. – The #21 ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team remained perfect in Empire 8 Conference play with a 2-1 victory over The Sage Colleges Saturday at the Albany College of Pharmacy Sports Complex. Stevens is now 12-2-1 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8, while Sage stands 4-7-1 and 2-2-1 in league play.
Stevens had a shot advantage of 21-5, including 13-1 in the first half. The Gators had all 11 corners in the match. Sage senior goalkeeper Michael Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) made five saves for the Gators.
Stevens opened the scoring with a goal with 21:58 left in the first half. Adam Silva was on the far left corner and sent a high pass in front, where Daniel Aversano headed it in for his sixth of the season. That goal made it 1-0, and the score held up through the first half.
The Ducks added what proved to be much needed insurance at 71:07. A feed from the left side corner area was retrieved through a crowd by Justin Kochman, who drove home his second of the year in close for a 2-0 lead.
But the Gators got on the board just 27 seconds later. Freshman midfielder Kevin Winglosky (Schodack, NY/Ichabod Crane) scored his first career goal at 71:34. He converted on a breakaway and put it in to make it a one goal game.
Sage is back in action Tuesday, October 16 with a non-league game at Oneonta State at 3 p.m.
