Women's record win streak halted by Purchase on Saturday despite Bowman's career-high 20 points
Purchase, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team had its school-record six-game win streak halted on Saturday as the host Panthers of Purchase College tallied a key 70-62 win. The Panthers improve to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the Skyline Conference. Sage's streak comes to an end and puts the Gators at 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the league.
Purchase used a strong first half to defeat the Gators after owning a 34-19 lead at the intermission. Despite racking up 43 second half points, the Sage was unable to get past Purchase's one-two punch of Jess Lindsay and Talia Beaulieu's combined 45 points. Lindsay shot 8-13 from the floor en route to her game-high 23 points, while Beaulieu was 10-12 from the line and racked up 22 points with five assists.
Sophomore guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) finished with a career-high 20 points on Saturday as she hit 7-of-11 shots from the floor, while handing out six assists with four steals for Sage. She bettered her previous high of 17 points in the team's contest at Purchase a year ago as a rookie. She continues to lead the Gators in scoring with her 8.8 ppg average, while adding a team-best 56 assists with 36 steals.
Junior guard Erica Houle (Latham, NY/Shaker) added 16 points for the Gators, while leading the team in rebounds as well in the game with six caroms. Sophomore guard Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) tallied 10 points in action for Sage.
The Gators will be back in action January 15 when they host Union College in a 7 p.m. non-conference game in the Kahl Gym.
