Gators Get Final Tune-Up Before E8 Conference Championships
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Track and Field traveled down state to West Point for their final tune-up prior to the Empire 8 Conference Championships next week.
Senior Alexius Smith (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) highlighted the Gator finishers, placing 3rd in the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters, improving her own program standard set last year at Utica.
Sophomore Mia Merino (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) finished ninth in the shot put with a toss of 9.84 meters.
Junior Mercedez Cecelia-Storey (Pine Hill, NY/Onteora), who set a new program standard in the weight throw last week, placed 12th in the event with an 11.60 mark.
On the men's side, junior Jack Christopher placed 10th in the 3000m with a time of 10:26.20, while freshman Christopher Whalen (Arlington, VT/Arlington Memorial) finished fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:59.32.
RSC competes in the Empire 8 Conference Championships, hosted by Nazareth, next weekend.
