Plattsburgh, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team wrapped play on Saturday at the 2017 Plattsburgh State Best Western-Ground Round Cardinal Classic. Sage fell to Plymouth State University, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-18) and then dropped tight match to Plattsburgh State, 3-1 (25-10, 26-18, 24-26, 25-15).
Senior's senior captain Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) earned All-Tournament Team honors for her outstanding play this weekend. The selection is a first for the Gator senior. For the tournament, Nellis led the Gators with her 21 kills, 33 setting assists, 29 digs with four total blocks and a pair of aces with 25.5 points.
Against Plymouth State, Nellis led the way with her numbers that includes five kills with 11 setting assists, four digs and a block assist. Rookie Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added five kills with five digs, while sophomore Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central) added four kills. Sophomore Nicole Groll (Southington, CT/Southington) added seven digs with an ace against PSU.
In the final match, Nellis paced the team with her nine kills and had a .316 attack percentage. She had eight setting assists with an ace, 16 digs and a solo block.
Sophomore Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added four kills, while junior Brittany Orminski (Galway, NY/Galway) helped the team with three kills, 12 setting assists, an ace with four digs.
Senior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) made her 2017 debut in the match with Plattsburgh and added 14 digs with three aces.
Sage is back in action on Wednesday travelling to SUNY-Delhi for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
