SAGE FIELD HOCKEY TEAM EARNS THIRD STRAIGHT WIN AND THIRD STRAIGHT SHUTOUT
New Haven, CT—Sophomore forward Charity Rushinski (Shusan, NY/Salem Central) tallied her second straight hat trick as the Sage field hockey team racked up a 7-0 road win over Albertus Magnus College. The victory marks the program's first three-game win streak and third straight victory by virtue of a shutout. With the win on Wednesday, Sage improves to 5-5 overall and has already surpassed the win total from the Gators' first season as they went 4-13 a year ago.
Rushinski, this week's Empire 8 Co-Offensive Field Hockey Player of the Week, added three goals for the Gators and helped Sage to 5-0 lead at the half.
Junior forward Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) added the first two goals of the match, while sophomore Kathryn Gallagher (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls) connected for two goals and an assist as Sage outshot Albertus Magnus 39-0.
Sophomore forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) added another goal and continues to lead Sage in scoring and points as she has 12 goals and 31 points this season. On her career, she leads the young Gator program with 42 career points on 17 goals and eight assists.
Sage's goalkeepers, sophomore Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) and senior Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) shared in the shutout win as the each played a half and did not need to make a single save in the contest.
The Gators are back in action at Utica College on October 5 for a 6 p.m. Empire 8 match with the Pioneers.
