Empire 8 Taps Alvarado as Defensive Player of the Week

Rochester, NY — The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team stands at 2-1 on the season and is coming off a weekend where they posted two wins at the Alfred University Tournament with victories over Baruch College and Cazenovia College. Among the highlights from the weekend was the first career win for Sage's new rookie head coach Matt Esposito as the Gators beat Baruch on Saturday, 2-1.

Additional honors came for the Gators on Monday as sophomore central back Giddel Alvarado (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) was honored by the Empire 8 as the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Against Baruch, he scored the game-winning goal, while adding an assist in the match as well. He backed up that performance with an assist against Cazenovia to cap the week with four points.

Sage is back in action on September 11 at Plattsburgh State University for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest on the road. The Gators will host Oneonta State on September 14 at noon at ACP Stadium in the team's 2019 home opener on Saturday. The first 50 fans in attendance at the Gators' match on Saturday will be given free Sage stadium cups.
