Park Represents Team USA at Korean Amateur Olympics
BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA - Russell Sage College Men's Golf freshman Nicholas Park (Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) had the opportunity to represent the United States golf team at the Korean Amateur Olympics. The freshman was chosen as a member of Team USA and traveled to Korea to play in the three-round, stroke play tournament at Asiad Golf and Country Club in Busan, South Korea.
Park placed 20th overall, highlighted by scores of 77 and 79, to help the men's team finish sixth overall. Factoring in the women's team first-place showing, Team USA earned the bronze medal.
He shared details of his experience below:
"Recently, with the honor to represent Team USA, I had the opportunity to traveled to Busan, South Korea, in order to participate in the Korean Amateur Olympics. With live broadcasting, all the participants marched down the stadium and were greeted by the residents of Korea, Busan City Council members, the President and The First Lady of South Korea and fans of the Amateur Olympics during the opening ceremony. Marching through the stadium was an overwhelming experience with great excitement!"
"At first, I was careful to approach the players of USA golf team because it was our first time meeting, all from different states, including California, Georgia, and Colorado. However, during our practice rounds, we had the opportunity to get to know each other. Me being the youngest participant, my teammates encouraged me and had loosened me up to open up to them."
"I'm grateful for this unforgettable experience. I loved spending time with them even more after witnessing them do well in practice and tournament rounds. We had roughly a week to get to know one another, and I already truly miss them. I'm hoping for another opportunity to play again next year! With more preparation and training with our Sage teammates, under the guidance of Coach Cain, I am confident that I will play better than I did this year. Thank you to Team USA, family, and friends for all the support and especially our Sage family!
I hope to see you all soon; I miss you all! GO Team USA! Go Gators!"
