TROY, N.Y. – In the first-ever meeting between the crosstown schools, Russell Sage College was defeated 7-0 on Wednesday night at Rensselaer Polytechnic institute.
Late in the second quarter, the Engineers (6-6) scored twice in a 1:27 span to go into the break ahead 3-0. Just 2:10 into the third period, RPI, now winners of four-straight games, broke the non-conference game open with a pair of goals just 55 seconds apart.
Senior goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made eight saves for the Gators, while junior forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) took a team-high three shots.
Freshman forward Nina Caprio led RPI with two goals.
Looking ahead, both teams have home games up next. The Gators (1-12) host Elmira on Saturday at 1:00 pm. RPI hosts Union on Friday at 4:00 pm.
