Gators fall twice at SUNY-IT Invitational
Utica, NY---- The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team opened action on Saturday at the two-day Wildcat Invitational at SUNY-IT. Sage dropped their first match to Lasell College (3-1, 25-18, 25-20, 16-25, 25-17) and then fell to Stevenson University, 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-21). The Gators drop to 1-2 on the young season and return to action on Sunday at the Wildcat Invitational facing Hilbert College and Bard College.
Against, Lasell junior co-captain and middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) led the team with his 18 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Jeremy Mosch (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) added seven kills, while sophomore co-captain Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), a 2010 Skyline Conference Second Team honoree, added 30 setting assists.
Rookie libero Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) added 20 digs for the Gators in the match.
In the second match of the tournament, the Gators dropped a tough decision to Stevenson, a 2010 NECVA tournament participant. Hilland added 20 kills for Sage, while freshman Ryan Wilkins (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected for seven kills for Sage. Ray added 31 setting assists, while Bynon added 13 digs.
