SVC tops Gators in men's volleyball play
Bennington, VT---- The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team travelled to Southern Vermont College on Wednesday evening. The Mountaineers honored their 2011 seniors in conjunction with their home finale and delivered as they won 3-1 (25-22, 25-16,14-25, 25-22). SVC improves to 5-17 overall, while the Gators drop to 13-11 overall.
The Mountaineers also recognized its three seniors Aaron Eschler, Neel Patel and Jose Taveras. Freshman, Anthony Barahona led both teams with 21 kills on the evening. Connor Murray also added 10 kills for the Mountaineers. Anthony Ayala had a match high 37 assists and led the Mountaineers with 20 digs. Murray, Eschler, Barahona and Haggerty picked up 15, 12, 12 and 11 digs a piece.
Leading the way for the Gators was sophomores Jake Douty (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) with 11 kills and Jeremy Mosch (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) added 10. Freshman Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) and sophomore Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) picked up 17 and 11 assists a piece. Rookie libero Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) led Sage with 26 digs.
Sage will be back in action on March 24 hosting Yeshiva University at 8 p.m. in the regular-season finale in the Kahl Center.
