Gators Commence Campaign with Home Victory

The Gators (1-0), which forced 29 Bard turnovers, used an 11-0 fourth quarter run to pull away in the Saturday non-conference matinee.
Senior guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City) topped all players with 24 points. She tallied five steals and knocked down four shots from beyond the arc.
Junior forward Kallie Hopkins (Millsboro, DE/Poly Tech) contributed a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Jaileen Soto (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) registered a career-high of 18 points.
14-all after the first period, RSC outscored the visitors 15-8 in the second quarter to go into the locker room ahead 29-22.
Soto, who nearly equaled her rookie season scoring output in today's opener, had 14 points across the opening 20 minutes. The guard, who finished 4-of-7 from the field, converted a four-point play with 3:49 remaining before the intermission.
The Raptors hung around for much of the second half, going into the final period down by eight, 40-32.
RSC commenced the fourth by netting 17 of the first 23 points. The stretch included the aforementioned 11-0 run spanning 3:25 that put the Gators up 57-38 with 3:01 left on the clock.
Freshman forward Morgan Kottka led Bard (0-1) with 14 points, while senior guard Shirley Dong added 12 points.
Looking ahead, RSC visits Union on Wednesday.
