Gators Fall in Season Opener
Russell Sage College Women's Lacrosse opened their season on Sunday as they traveled north to face off with the SUNY Plattsburgh, where the Cardinals came out on top 18-7 in the matinee.
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Lacrosse opened its season on Sunday at SUNY Plattsburgh, where the Cardinals came out on top 18-7 in the matinee.
The Gators, in their first contest under the direction of Head Coach Geri Seif, were led by midfielder Gianna Geraci (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park). The junior scored four goals, including three in the first period. Geraci scooped up a ground ball and caused a turnover in the effort.
Two other Gators contributed goals on Sunday afternoon, as attacker Samantha Shafer (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady), a graduate student, tallied a pair, while junior midfielder Alexis Crossman (Corinth, NY/Corinth) found the back of the net once.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Gravina (Albany, NY/Albany) (0-1) stopped five SUNY Plattsburgh shots in her first game in the cage as a Gator.
Plattsburgh (1-0) was led by Cynthia Barnosky's seven point performance on the way to their first victory of the season.
Looking ahead, RSC (0-1) is back in action on Saturday, March 7 as they travel to SUNY Canton.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The spring marks the first with Head Coach Geri Seif leading the Russell Sage College Women's Lacrosse program…She served as an assistant coach with nearby Union College from 2022-2025…Five Gators return from last year's squad…Junior midfielder Alexis Crossman (Corinth, NY/Corinth), junior defender Mackenna Huestis (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), and sophomore midfielder Maia Hunter (Theresa, NY/Indian River) headline the returnees…In 2025, Crossman topped RSC with 37 points on 31 goals and six assists, and set the program single-season records with 50 caused turnovers, 3.57 per-game.
