ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Soccer faced SUNY New Paltz, the defending SUNYAC regular season and conference tournament champions in its season opener.
The host Hawks, under the direction of former Gator Samantha Trimblett '19, soared out to a 3-0 lead at the intermission en route to a 4-0 non-conference victory.
Sophomore forward Anna Shepard (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Columbia/Wagner) topped the Gators with two shots taken, while junior Olivia Horan (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) (0-1-0) and freshman Emma Fogarty (Troy, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) combined for four saves, two apiece.
Forward Kennedy Jones (Albany, NY/Albany), a graduate student, paced SUNY New Paltz (1-0-0), which outshot the Gators 15-2, with a goal and an assist.
RSC (0-1-0) hosts Nichols on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The Gators are coming off of their third-straight appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament…RSC, the 2020-21 E8 champs, has 16 players back from last year's squad…Horan, senior midfielder Jaclyn Benedetti (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), and senior forward Gianna Viscusi (Duanesburg, NY/Schalmont) highlight the returning Gators…Horan commenced the autumn with a 0.95 career goals-against average, a program record, and sat third among RSC keepers with 11 career shutouts… Head Coach Garrett Cobb, now in his tenth season at the helm of the Gators, added 12 newcomers to the program.
