Gators take fourth at Elms Meet

Chicopee, MA–Sage's men's and women's cross country teams were both in action on Saturday at the Elms College Trailblazer Invitational. The University of New England (UNE) women's team earned first place honors in the women's 5-kilometer race, while Babson College earned top team honors in the men's 8-kilometer race at Saturday afternoon's Blazers cross country invitational at Chicopee Memorial State Park.
Sage's women's team finished with an impressive third place finish in the race held at Chicopee Memorial State Park, while the Gator men picked up a fourth place showing.
On the men's side, Babson won the team event with 23 points, followed by UNE (52), Gordon College (89), The Sage Colleges (117), MCLA (117), Massachusetts Maritime Academy (125), Daniel Webster College (208), Eastern Nazarene College (228) and Mount Ida College (262).
Babson's Mark Gulesian sprinted to a first place time of 26:30 and set a new course record in the process, besting the previous mark of 27:04 which had stood since 2009 (Greg Redfield – Johnson & Wales).
Gulesian's teammates Nate Kolman, Ian MacLean and Brian DeLeon were the next three finishers, followed by UNE's Shane Murphy to round out the top five.
Freshman Adam Kuzdzal (Chicopee, Mass.) clocked a time of 35:19 in his first race at Chicopee Memorial State Park and sophomore Nicholas Green (Ware, Mass.) crossed the line in a time of 53:06.
For the Sage men's team, sophomore Jesus Vaquez-Lopez (Latham, NY/Shaker) finished in 8th place with his time of 29:01 for the 8 K course. Next for the Gators was rookie Juan Reyes-Alvarez (Latham, NY/Shaker) in 15th in 29:33.
Junior Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) took 22nd in 30:37, while senior Cory Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) finished in 29th in 31:17. Sophomore Taylor McMillen (Wyantskill, NY/Averill Park) finished in 43rd place in 37:10. Junior Anthony Crawford (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy) netted a time of 38:22 to finish in 45th for Sage.
The Gators return to action on September 29 at the Cazenovia College Invitational.
