Gators Win in Four Sets Over Alfred

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Volleyball took down visiting Alfred on Saturday Afternoon 3-1 (30-28, 25-17, 14-25, 27-25).
The Gators (9-10, 4-3 E8) won the first, second, and fourth sets on their way to the conference win, with two of the four sets going to extra points.
Senior opposite Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) led the way on the attack for RSC with twelve kills and a block. Senior outside hitter Ashleigh Gerkman (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) followed behind with seven, while freshman middle hitter Emily Trama (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) added six.
Freshman setter Emma Curry (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills) continued her strong rookie campaign with 23 digs, while senior setter Mia Wood (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added a Gator-high 17 assists.
"We fought really hard in our match against Houghton, but weren't able to come out on top, but showed some really great performances on our Senior Night," shared Head Coach Rosilyn Cummings. "We were in the position to go to a fifth set again against Alfred and decided we wanted to win in four and went out and did it. I am really proud of everyone and how they came together to overcome the deficit we were in in the fourth set."
RSC wraps up its home slate on Tuesday as they host Skidmore.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: RSC made its first appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament last fall…Seven players return this season, Gerkman…Head Coach Rosilyn Cummings, now in her third season at the helm of the Gators, added nine newcomers to this year's squad…Gerkman was selected the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, August 31.
