Trio of Gators Earn All-E8 Honors
ALBANY, N.Y. – A trio from Russell Sage College Field Hockey garnered All-Empire 8 Conference honors. Accolades, determined by voting done by the league's head coaches, were announced by the E8 office earlier today.
Freshman midfielder Catherine Newkirk (Marathon, NY/Marathon) made the second-team. The rookie totaled 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Newkirk, chosen the E8 Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 28, concluded the regular season tied for eighth in the E8 in goals scored.
Junior midfielder Cheyanne Zobel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was voted third-team All-Conference for the third-straight year. The co-captain, who excelled offensively and defensively for RSC, finished the fall with a program career record 22 assists. She currently sits fourth among Gators with 44 career points and tied for seventh with 11 career goals.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2025 E8 Field Hockey Sportswomen of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen. Junior defender Alexis Olen (Woodstock, NY/Onteora) represented the Gators (5-12/3-7 E8) on the squad.
