Diba Scores Four Goals to Lift Gators Past Wolves
Russell Sage College Men's Lacrosse picked up their first Empire 8 Conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Keuka 10-8.
ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Men's Lacrosse picked up their first Empire 8 Conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Keuka 10-8.
The contest was a battle for all 60 minutes. The conference action was knotted up at three as they entered the break.
From there, RSC scored four goals in the third period, and three more in the fourth to secure the Saturday afternoon win.
Attacker Mame Diba (New York, NY/Haldane) led the way offensively, scoring four of the Gators ten goals. The senior, who passed Robert Martin for seventh on the program's career scoring list this afternoon, also controlled a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover.
Midfielder Ryan Blake (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia/Salisbury), a grad student, tallied a pair of goals and secured three ground balls, while senior midfielder Gamo Koulibaly (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) tallied three ground balls and a goal. Sophomore midfielder Carson Pesce (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) provided needed insurance, scoring the tenth and final goal of the day for Russell Sage.
Two unexpected contributors registered goals in the victory, as senior Andrew Collora (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and sophomore Mason Marckres (Essex Junction, VT/Essex), who both began their RSC careers as goalkeepers, scored their first collegiate goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jordon Hankel (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) (3-5) stopped nine Keuka shots in the win.
"It was a gutsy win," shared Head Coach Erich Skelly. "We had a lot of non-traditional guys score. We had two guys who changed positions score and a face-off guy score two goals. And they woke up Mame Diba. Don't wake him up like that."
RSC (3-5/1-4 E8) is back in action on Wednesday at Utica.
