NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Russell Sage College softball traveled south for a non-conference test against SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gators fell 4-1 in the opener, before dropping game two 8-0.
Senior Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane), who surpassed the career 100-hit mark on Saturday, scattered three hits across the twin bill.
Junior Izabelle Ratcliffe (Cohoes, NY/Shaker/HVCC) knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly in the opener, while junior Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse) registered a pair of knocks in game two.
Five other Gators had hits in the twin bill, and RSC pitching combined to strike out five New Paltz batters.
Looking ahead, RSC (9-11/2-5 E8) returns to the diamond on Friday for a doubleheader against Houghton.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: Russell Sage College Softball looks to return to the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament for the sixth-straight spring…14 returners combine with seven newcomers to make up this year's roster… Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane), and senior infielder Hannah Smith (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) headline the returnees…Tyler and Smith both earned All-E8 honors last season…Tyler was named to the second-team while Smith earned a spot on the third team… Pitcher Annabella Putnam (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh/Mansfield), a graduate student and junior catcher/infielder Katie Call (Antwerp, NY/Indian River/Jefferson County CC) highlight the newcomers…Tyler took home E8 Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 15…The infielder slashed .462/.654/.533 during the team's season-opening trip to Florida…The junior scored eight runs, tallied four RBI, laced three doubles, and totaled 17 bases…She registered four multi-hit efforts and stole four bases across the eight games.
