RSC Softball Splits E8 Doubleheader at Utica
UTICA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Softball had five players get at least three across Tuesday's Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Utica.

UTICA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Softball split Tuesday's road Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Utica.
The Gators took the opener 7-3 before falling 9-7 in the second game.
RSC had five players get at least three hits across the road twin bill.
Sophomore outfielder Carmela DeMaio (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBI to lead the way.
Junior shortstop Allison Kenyon (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) went 3-for-6 with five runs scored, with junior infielder Katie Call (Antwerp, NY/Indian River/Jefferson County CC) adding three hits in five at bats, three runs scored and two RBI.
Junior designated player Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) set the table out of the leadoff spot to the tune of three-for-7 with two runs scored, while junior outfielder Emily O'Keefe (Albany, NY/Albany) went 3-for-8 with three RBI.
The Gators built a 7-2 lead to take the first contest.
Call was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI to help RSC snap a four-game slide.
Utica (16-20/11-11 E8) erased a 4-1 deficit to salvage the split. The Pioneers broke open a 5-5 deadlock with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. They tacked on another run in the sixth, putting RSC down 9-5 going into its last at bat.
The Gator comeback attempt fell short in the seventh. With no outs, DeMaio laced a double to score Kenyon. She came around to score on a single by O'Keefe.
O'Keefe and DeMaio each drove in three runs in the second game. O'Keefe was 3-for-4, while DeMaio was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
RSC (17-19/10-10 E8) is slated to conclude the regular season on Friday afternoon when it receives a visit from Keuka for an E8 twin bill.
Today's split ensures that the Gators and Pioneers will meet again in the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament. The results of Friday's doubleheader between RSC and Keuka will determine which of the squads will be the home team for the elimination contest. An RSC sweep puts the game in the friendly confines of the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: Based upon results around the Conference this weekend, Russell Sage College Softball secured its spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament...The Gators, which have made the postseason for the sixth-straight spring, will play Utica in the first round on May 5...14 returners combine with seven newcomers to make up this year's roster…Tyler, senior catcher/outfielder Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane), and senior infielder Hannah Smith (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) headline the returnees…Pitcher Annabella Putnam (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh/Mansfield), a graduate student, and Call highlight the newcomers…Tyler and Smith both earned all-Empire 8 Conference honors last season…Tyler was named to the second team while Smith represented the Gators on the third team…Tyler took home E8 Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 15…The infielder slashed .462/.654/.533 during the team's season-opening trip to Florida…The junior scored eight runs, tallied four RBI, laced three doubles, and totaled 17 bases…She registered four multi-hit efforts and stole four bases across the eight games…Putnam was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Players and Pitchers to Watch List…The righty, just one of 118 players from across the country to make the prestigious list, was tabbed the E8 Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 12…The graduate student, who no-hit visiting Houghton on April 10, went 2-0 with a 1.75 ERA and 13 strikeouts in her two Conference starts that weekend…Overall, she went 2-1 across her three starts this week, all complete games…The righty registered 15 strikeouts across 18.0 innings, a 2.33 ERA, and a .232 opposing batting average…Opponents began the day batting just .203 off the graduate student, the worst off of any E8 hurler…Putnam began the week ranked third on the circuit with 85 strikeouts and fifth with a 3.04 ERA…Senior pitcher Bailey Catlin (Petersburg, NY/Berlin/Saint Rose) topped the Conference with a 2.59 ERA.
