Russell Sage College softball battled with SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader.
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Russell Sage College softball battled with SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader.
The Gators were outmatched by the Golden Eagles, falling in game one 3-0, before losing 8-6 in the nightcap.
RSC had six hits in the opener, headlined by a pair from sophomore Carmela DeMaio (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick)
Senior Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) ripped a double, while juniors Katie Call (Antwerp, NY/Indian River/Jefferson County CC), Emily O’Keefe (Albany, NY/Albany), Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse) all tallied a single.
Annabella Putnam (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh/Mansfield), a graduate student, struck out four across six innings of work.
There was much more offensive action in game two, as the teams combined to score 14 runs across the seven frames.
RSC held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third, before Brockport scored in their final four trips to the plate to secure the 8-6 victory.
O'Keefe had another strong game offensively, driving in two runs on a pair of singles.
DeMaio hit a double and scored a run, while Call and Santana each hit singles and drove in runs.
The Gators (16-16/9-7 E8) return to the diamond on Monday for a doubleheader against SUNY Geneseo.
