Gators Sweep Midweek Doubleheader Against Hartwick
Russell Sage College softball swept Tuesday's Empire 8 Conference Doubleheader over Hartwick, by scores of 7-1 and 6-2.
ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College softball swept Tuesday's Empire 8 Conference Doubleheader over Hartwick, by scores of 7-1 and 6-2.
The Gators (16-14/9-5 E8) opened the scoring in game one early, holding a 3-0 lead through three frames.
Sophomore Carmela DeMaio (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) ripped a RBI double, and scored on a single from sophomore Annie Reilly (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) in the second. Senior Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) drove in a run on a groundout in the bottom of the third.
The Hawks got their lone run of game one in the fourth inning. Aside from that, Annabella Putnam (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh/Mansfield), a graduate student, was stellar, striking out eight across the complete game victory.The Gators started early again in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Call hit a sacrifice fly, and Kenyon knocked home two more with a single to right.
"Proud of our team for staying consistent with putting the ball in play and putting pressure on the defense at the plate," shared Head Coach Stephanie McKay after the pair of conference wins. "That consistency is what will carry us through the end of this season, as we continue to rely on our upperclassmen."
The Gators head on the road this weekend with doubleheaders against SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Brockport.
