Gators Offense Explodes for 27 Runs and Sweeps Doubleheader Against NYU

BRADENTON, Fla. – Russell Sage College baseball scored 27 runs on Saturday afternoon as they swept a doubleheader against NYU on Saturday at IMG Academy.
The Gators (6-2) came out on top in game one 12-11, before wrapping up the twin bill defeating the Violets 15-5.
In the opener, RSC held a 12-3 lead going into the ninth, but NYU's comeback attempt came up short.
Junior Jayden Kennedy (East Patchogue, NY/Patchogue Medford/HVCC) drove in four runs, two of which came on a first inning two-run homerun, his second on the young season.
Senior Evan Grimes (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) joined in on the fun, popping his first big fly of the year in the fourth inning. Senior Colin Casey (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro/Saint Rose) drove in three runs, while sophomore Darren Dengler (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) drove in a pair.
Senior infielder Joe Karpierz (Latham, NY/Shaker/Xavier) scored two runs in his four hit performance, while freshman Nick Irizarry (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) scored three times, reaching base in four plate appearances with a pair of stolen bases.
Senior Aidan Green (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro/Onondaga CC) punched out seven batters in seven innings of three-run ball and sophomore Asa Dugan (Morris, NY/Morris Central) picked up his first collegiate save.
In game two, the bats continued to stay hot, scattering 15 runs across the nine innings.
It was a homer party on Saturday, with Dengler joining in on the fun with a three-run blast in the second inning. The sophomore drove in five runs on his three hit day with two doubles and the big fly.
Karpierz drove in five runs in the nightcap, adding another two hits to his average, currently good for second in the Empire 8 conference. Irizarry ripped four singles, drove in three runs and scored three runs, while Kennedy tallied a pair of hits, including a double, and scored two runs.
Senior infielder Anthony Rizzo (Latham, NY/Shaker/HVCC) produced his second three-hit game in the last three games, while Casey scored three runs with a hit.
Junior Connor Griffin (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore/Lock Haven) picked up the win for RSC, allowing just one run and a pair of hits in 4.2 innings of relief.
RSC finishes their Spring Break trip and their series against NYU on Sunday against the Violets.
