GENEVA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Men's Volleyball kicked off its season by facing a pair of nationally-ranked opponents at this afternoon's Hobart Tournament.
The Gators opened their spring by falling 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23) to SUNY Buffalo, receiving votes in the preseason AVCA coaches' national poll, before losing 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-18) to the host Statesmen, slotted at number 16.
Sophomore outside hitter John Lindheimer (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) paced the Gators with 18 kills across the six sets.
Junior outside hitter Sean Pingelski (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) totaled 16 kills on .313 hitting and eight digs, while junior opposite Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) tallied 14 kills and 9 digs.
Sophomore setter Anthony Guetti (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) contributed 43 assists, seven digs, and two total blocks against the nationally-ranked foes.
In the opener, junior outside hitter Gavin Wilczewski topped SUNY Buffalo (1-0) with 10 kills on .286 hitting.
Hobart (1-0), which served up 12 aces in the sweep, received five or more kills from four different players in the nightcap.
RSC (0-2) continues its season-opening weekend tomorrow afternoon at No. 17 Saint John Fisher.
